2022年6月19日，毕业旅行的第二天，继续西行，这是通往中部大平原的必经之路。一路上又是赶路的一天，早上差不多十点钟出发。8个多小时的车程，算上各种吃饭加油，跨越了一个时区，最终差不多当地时间19点才最终到达。

早晨的汽车旅馆，阳光照射了进来。虽然已经是6月底夏天，但是晚上外面的气温还是很冷。

今天的一路上基本上沿着五大湖的边的高速开车，现在重新看地图才知道原来Ohio，就在这么近，Ohio也是今年2月份发生火车出轨倾倒无数化学物质的地方，同时也是《黑水》故事发生的地方，总之就是一堆化工厂和化学原料泄露之地。

中午路过一个日本餐馆点的饭，看上去十分精致，但是实际上并没有肉，可以说是“僧饭”了，也是，“西游记"里面怎么少得了僧饭呢。

一路西行，开始看到很多美国大农田，高速公路边上的一个大房子，然后房子边上停放拖拉机等各种农具。

美国22年6月份的油价，基本上可以说是油价最贵的时候，去的这一趟毕业旅行，这里相比昨天在尼亚加拉瀑布之前加的油4.999已经贵了8%，基本上越往芝加哥走，价格越贵，当到达芝加哥城市之时，油价已经是7块有多，可以想象的是芝加哥的生活成本还是相当高昂的。

到达芝加哥，已经是晚上7点，整个芝加哥的城市印象，可以是被这个漫长的湖边景观带所吸引。

基本上沿湖驾驶，都能感受到这个漫长的湖边公园系统，芝加哥的城市天际线，渐渐显现在眼前。

越往市中心，越堵车，旁边一连串的公园，吸引了大量游客直接停路边。

最终在千禧公园的多层停车场里停车。

Eventually, I parked my vehicle in the multi-story parking lot at Millennium Park.

千禧公园可以说也是集聚各位大师作品的一个公园了，记得之前上植物课的时候曾经看过GGN在千禧公园做的一个小花园案例。

Millennium Park can be said to be a collection of masterpieces of the park, I remember when I took the Plant course, I had seen a small garden example made by GGN in Millennium Park.

本来想去参观一下，可惜由于到达芝加哥已经算是比较晚，距离日落时间不多，由于此次旅行芝加哥并非重点，而时间也比较赶，而芝加哥是出了名的治安差。我不希望重新再次出现吴同学的悲剧，所以此次"Urban Dérive"，因为更希望所以决定去看的是最重要的sasaki在芝加哥做的river walk，以及顺便参观一下芝加哥的城市感受其城市繁华。而游览过程，甚至连相机都出于安全考虑，没有拿出来。此次所有照片均由小米9拍摄，这台三年多四年老的手机，拍照也算是那样了。

城市特色一：丰富的建筑设计

The First Character of The City: Various Well Design Architecture

漫步芝加哥，映入眼帘的各种建筑，给人十分繁华的感觉。

Strolling through Chicago, the various buildings in front of our eyes give us a very prosperous feeling.

各个大楼的堆叠，比起迈阿密的建筑要更高一些，而且相对来说建筑造型更为丰富而多样。

The stacks of buildings are taller than those in Miami, and the architectural shapes are relatively richer and more varied.

各大造型，从相对历史一点的到新的建筑，都在这里汇聚。

越往河边走，才越发现这里的设计似乎比想象中的复杂，河道似乎显著低于所有这些建筑的首层，高差接近10米。而所有这些城市道路，下面似乎还有一层道路，由于时间仓促，至今我还没分清楚究竟什么地方，地面才是真实的地面，而道路和建筑有了架空，为这条芝加哥和营造了滨水的空间。

这边的特朗普大楼，如同一艘大轮船一样，玻璃外墙在带来了炫丽的反光，可惜日落西山，一切似的反射，似乎都是显得暗淡无光。

城市的特色之二：运河立体双首层结构

The Second Character of The City: Multi-Level Design Over the River

这条运河的立体之处，似乎这些城市之间的桥就能体现出来，所有的这些draw bridge ，可以在大船到来我打开的桥，以及其道路，把所有的高层建筑的都营造出了一个双首层的结构。道路上是一层，而运河边上是另一层。

The river and the space above were designed with multi-level, it seems that these bridges between cities can be reflected, all of these draw bridges can open when the ship arrives, as well as its road, and all the high-rise buildings are to create a double first floor of the structure. On the road is one level, and on the canal is another level.

这种双首层的结构最大的好处就是感觉上变得层次丰富，可以轻松地看到运河正在发生什么，究竟有什么活动可以轻松地看到。缺点就是更加复杂的grading需要在景观以及建筑的协调中设计和想出来，也就不可避免很多地方将会有大量的楼梯和斜坡以到达运河边上。这个整个架空的高度，也让大部分船不需要在draw bridge开启的时候也能通过。

The biggest advantage of this double first-floor structure is that it feels like it becomes layered, and it is easy to see what is going on in the canal, and what exactly is going on can be easily seen. The downside is that the more complex grading will need to be designed and figured out in coordination with the landscape as well as the architecture, and inevitably there will be a lot of stairs and ramps in many places to get to the canal side. The elevated height of the whole thing also allows most boats to pass through without the draw bridge being open.

而这也需要提前在城市设计中有对应的规划和限制的规则条例，才能使得所有的建筑在建设的时候能够按照预想中的建设，可见整个芝加哥对于城市市中心的规划是有预先的想法。或者说这条河的交通量以及历史决定了其建设不能像其他城市一样就地而建设，而其城市地位和财政也需要能够有一定的支持去建设这些建筑以外的景观部分。优点就是更丰富的空间结构和活动形态，缺点当然就是更复杂的设计和后期维护带来的贵。

This also requires that there be a corresponding planning and restriction of rules and regulations in the urban design in advance so that all the buildings can be constructed by the expected construction, which shows that the whole city of Chicago has a preconceived idea about the planning of the city center. The traffic volume and history of the river dictated that it could not be built on site like other cities, and the city's status and finances required a certain level of support for the construction of landscapes other than these buildings. The advantage is a richer spatial structure and activity pattern, while the disadvantage is of course a more complex design and expensive maintenance.

而这样的设计模式，在佛罗里达州的迈阿密没有采用。

劳德代尔堡也同样没有采用。一方面是这边南方地区，运河众多，所有的项目的建设周期和设计阶段都未必一致，统一规定建造这样的双首层模式恐怕只会带来灾难，另一方面既然河网密布，也就决定了将会有很多可以进行活动的河流，也就不能集中力量办大事，河流和河流之间的地位，如果统统这样设计和建造，未必具有性价比。

Fort Lauderdale also did not adopt. 特朗普大楼之后，还有玉米桶大楼，而芝加哥之所以能够采用这种模式，在于这个桥梁和道路设计的时候，就已经决定了其相对于运河是立体的。

下面还会有铁路等的二层交通运输方式在这里穿过。整个城市就显得复杂多了，新的和旧的交通方式融合交杂，而且不能带来太多的问题，这里不禁想起了建设了十几二十年的波士顿大开挖。

城市的特色之三：芝加哥河道散步道

The Third Character of The City: Chicago River Walk

由于RISD距离sasaki的物理距离并不算太远，而Chicago River Walk这个项目的设计就是由sasaki去设计，所以就会有老师带着她们sasaki做的项目过来给我们上课了，Chicago River Walk可以说是sasaki设计的一个重要的项目了。

Since RISD is not too far from Sasaki physically, and the design of Chicago River Walk project is designed by Sasaki, so there will be teachers with their Sasaki projects to come over to teach, Chicago River Walk can be said to be an important project designed by Sasaki.

建成之后，令sasaki 收获了一堆大奖，课堂上对这个项目的介绍，很多建造和施工构建的椅子等等的设计，都是预制的然后再到现场组装，以满足相对的精度。

After the completion of the project, Sasaki harvested a bunch of awards, class on the introduction of this project, a lot of construction and construction of chairs, and so on the design, which are prefabricated and then assembled on-site to meet the relative accuracy.

而整个项目可以说是贵， 400多个百万的美金才把整个项目做下来。相当于4个亿美金。作为对比，纽约的猎人角公园花了66million，建一个Chicago River Walk这样的复杂的滨水公园相当于可以建7个猎人角公园。这个差距很难在场地上感受到。

And the whole project was arguably expensive, over 400 million dollars to get the whole thing done. That's the equivalent of four hundred million dollars. As a comparison, Hunter's Point Park in New York costs 66 million dollars, and building a complex waterfront park like the Chicago River Walk is equivalent to building 7 Hunter's Point Parks. The difference is hard to feel on the grounds.

由于是立体结构，所以到达Riverwalk，你需要走一条工业风十足的楼梯才能到达。而由于治安不太好，所以这里打开也就只能从早上6点开放到晚上11点了，言下之意就是除了这个时间段，大概率这个滨水公园会治安不太行。

一边下桥你就能一边看到这种立体的道路建设究竟是怎么回事，很多时候开车都不知道究竟开的是上面那层还是下面那层。

沿河而行，各种游船，河道更宽带来的好处就是可以开更大的船，Fort Lauderdale的一大问题就是相对来说河岸太小了。

走在这个riverwalk上面的第二个感觉就是，哟，sasaki做的设计，居然只有一边的，也就是说河的对岸，根本就不太适合这样的参观游览了，桥底也没有路连起来，走河对岸，就非常不舒服。

The second feeling when walking here is that Sasaki made the design, but actually only one side, that is to say, the other side of the river, not at all very suitable for such a visit, the bottom of the bridge is also no road connected, walk on the other side of the river, it is very uncomfortable.

突然你就会觉得这个花了4个多亿美金的工程，但是最后只有一边有river walk另一边没有是多么可笑。

Suddenly you realize how ridiculous it is to spend over 400 million dollars on a project that only has a river walk on one side and not on the other.

然后一边能够走，一边不能够走的river walk就形成了看和被看的关系。

对面的空间，大概也觉得既然自己不能走，俺就干脆搞点花样，看起来不要那么难看。于是干脆就各种装饰。

The space on the other side probably thought that since I couldn't walk, I should do something fancy so that it wouldn't look so ugly. Therefore it was decorated with various kinds of decorations.

而另外的原因，或许就是对面的河道，建筑之下还要想办法停船，真的是立体设计，这个玉米桐大楼的设计，为了解决停车问题，干脆直接把底下的部分全部做成停车场，还是螺旋式上升的那种，然后楼上再作为使用的的空间，再楼下还可以和运河对接，就差屋顶再建个直升机停机场，就真的可以说水陆空都打通了。

穿过之后又这样的台阶状的像舞台一样的平台，给人可以坐在上面。

天色渐暗，趁着还有点光决定快步走离，一路上街道上看到到处都是警车以保护治安。长时间逗留似乎变得不安全。

It was getting dark, so I decided to walk away while there was still some light, and on the way, I saw police cars everywhere on the street to protect the security. It seemed to become unsafe to stay for a long time.

黄昏之下，快步穿过城市，参观了一下千禧公园，于是开始去之前在车上就已经找好的吃饭的地方。在千禧公园停车一个小时多一点，收费24美金，算是我停车停过最贵的停车场了，但是人生地不熟，也不知道什么地方停车更好，一路开车队友也没有去做更好的规划也没有去找。只能感叹消费之高昂。
